- cbighamExplorer IIII did that 2 summers ago, pulling a 4 door jeep rubicon with a 25 ft thor motorhome. About same length, headed North across Golden Gate. It wasn't too bad. . Bumpy roads, make sure you watch your lanes carefully and are in the right lane. Traffic at wrong times a hassle. Doable.
- BTPO1ExplorerWhich route do you want I5 does not go through SF but through the central state. US101 does go through SF and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
- guidryExplorerDouble check GPS route; Google Maps took me off the freeway and through downtown at 5 o’clock traffic! Then up a “no commercial truck” route while pulling a 35’ 5th wheel trailer! Holy moly was that interesting.
- rlw999ExplorerI-5 doesn't go through SF. It does go through Sacramento, but it's heavily used by trucks, so an RV would be fine, but may have some traffic.
101 goes through SF, and I'd avoid that with a big RV since part of it goes on city streets and some of the lanes are narrow - I've done it in my motorhome, but I wouldn't want to tow anything. If you're coming south, you can cut over on I-580 north of SF to catch I-580 or I-800 south.
If you come in on I-80 into SF, then you can get to 101 south or 280 south while staying on the freeway. - Ed_GeeExplorer II

My motorhome including my tow is a 60' rig. I am wondering if that is too long to go through San Francisco on State I-5? Anybody have similar experience?
As BTP01 has already mentioned, Inter State 5 does not go through the SF Bay area at all. - MarkTwainExplorer

Is your goal to drive right in SF city? If not I would take I-5 and avoid driving in SF. - 101 through the city and over the golden gate is tight but very doable.
5 does not see sf. - DarkSkySeekerExplorerWhere are you coming from? Where are you going to? Unless you want a tight squeeze through San Francisco, there are better routes, for example, to go North to the Redwoods. It is hard to know how to answer this question.
- azdryheatExplorerWent over the GG bridge with my trailer on Memorial Day no less. Lots of traffic. No issues. Nice thing was we were northbound - no toll.
- LwiddisExplorer IIIf you tackle the 101 through San Francisco and over the Golden Gate Bridge, have your camera ready and video on. Fantastic!
I admit...I left my heart...in San Francisco...do be do, do be do...
