Hi,I am new to this forum and was hoping I could get some advice. My family and I are planning a road trip from Vancouver BC down to Disneyland in August. We have about 15 days and would really love to camp in more remote type sites or in State Parks if possible. WE really would love to see as much of the coast as possibele. That being said, we are towing a 30 ft trailer, so power, water and sani would be nice too. If anyone has done this (or a similar) trip, we would love to hear any suggestions, tips and cool spots to see.Thanks !D&S

Given the time you have I would drive down to Longview on I-5 and cut over to Astoria on US 30. Arrive late in the day and spend two nights at Fort Stevens SP or Cannon Beach RV. Spend the next full day exploring the north coast before departing early the next morning. Lots to see and do in this area.Dawdle down the coast to Beverly Beach SP near Newport. Spend a night here and make sure to visit the Oregon Coast Aquarium. From there you must decide how many days you want to be in Disneyland and how much you want to drive each day. Going further down the coast is beautiful, but not super fast. One way to do it is to take your time on the way down and go straight up I-5 to return.All of the state parks on the Oregon Coast are amazing if you choose to go all the way down the coast. Ashland can be a great stop in either direction. Camp at Emigrant Lake, a county park just out of town, and go see a play outside at night. There is a small water park for the kids near the campground.

15 days os not enough time to do the coast justice. Instead, blast due south on I5 to Dissyland and spend your money. When you get bored with that, then start back north. The central CA coast is worth seeing. Places like Hurst castle are fantastic. SanFrancisco if you have never been there is interesting. CA wine country is great. But by then you will have eaten up almost all of your allotted time. So jump back on I5 for a fast trip back home. Still have a few days? Continue back on 101 through the Redwoods. In Oregon there are a number of good roads back to I5 when you run out of time and need to end your oddisy.

And in August? geeez, man...if you are going to do the coastal thing, you need to be making reservations as soon as you possibly can. And...in truth...driving north, with a 30' trailer behind is not going to make you any happier. You will want to go into viewing areas as you drive along..that's one thing, but then you have to come out left to get back north-bound and you'll be crossing oncoming southbound, into the n/b..and none of those drivers will make room for you. Hell, they'll even accelerate to prevent you from getting in front of them. If Disneyland is the the focus of your trip..I'd say, just drive I-5, get there and do your thing. If it's the coast, then you'll do best driving it south and you do need to make reservations. It is crazy busy in summer. The other way? Leave the trailer at home...do the coast, take a motel where/when you end up after a day, go to Disneyland and head'r home.Gary Haupt

The Oregon state parks on the coast are excellent and there is tons to see along the 101 highway. Very easy to tow. Once you get down into California the coast highway gets tremendously busy and camping is harder to find.

There is an advantage in doing the 101 south as it is eaier to pull over at an ocean view site on the right as you are headed south. we did this last year in March and encountered lots of rain on the coast. We took a month for our trip. One week at DL with gandkids. Back up on i-5. Having lived in Langley, BC we made many trips up and down I5 through Seatle, and definately recommend 405 not I5 because the expnsion joints on I 5 are very rough.
