A couple of years ago when Canadian Rainbirds lost a tow vehicle, he posted a great picture of a "replacement" vehicle. It was heavily armored.

There was a company in Toronto making armored vehicles for civilian use, they were popular with the drug gang bosses, but it got shut down after a law was passed making armoring illegal.

Just search the Internet. One article in January this year,Time reports 29,168 last year murdered by the Cartels.
I didn't book mark all the reports but I think it was March or May 7000 already killed. One article from 2007 to 2013 164,000 killed.
This year is wore than before but I'm not up to searching the Internet for the reports. You would think that Murders in Mexico in 2018 entered would bring the article up first.
I remember the figure of over 250,000 from maybe 2007 til now.
Several thousand were killed in just one month earlier this year.
MSNBC and CNN and the like are not always reliable or even reporting you have to look on the Internet for accurate news and stories and reports they aren't doing. But CNN in January said something like 29,0000 last year.

Yes there are lots of murders in Mexico, but they involve narcos against narcos now and then an inocent is caught in the cross fire, yes there was a Canadian shot friday in a shopping mal, when 10 to 12 individuals jump out of 3 vhehicles and target the Canadian and the guy with him only and no one else, the connection to the narcos is there.

No tourist is in danger in Mexico, the narcos do not want the DEA and the FBI looking into the demise of inocent tourists by the cartels, that is to much interference in the narco buisness, if you think you need an armourd vehicle to visit Mexico then you might awell use the vehicle to visit some of the cities in the United States as well, the narco gangs are there to, those numbers that you refer to are based on the narcos mainly, remember that deaths and thefts are just numbers, they do not separate inocent victims and perps.

Yes the DEA and the FBI do cooperate with the Mexican authorities to bring the narcos to justice in Mexico and 92,00% of murders in Mexico are narco related only and tourist in Mexico are safe, unless they are looking for drugs and that is dangeous in Canada, the United States or Mexico, so buy your armored vehicle and enjoy your fear.

Oh jeez. I have to immediately inform my 83 year old parents who've been going to Mexico for over 35 years that it's not safe and they have to stop going!!! They spend a month there sometime during Jan/Feb.

Puerto Vallarta is still safe, imho. I haven't been there for 4 years but have gone there three times with them, they know the town, the locals know them by name (the guy on the pier with the restaurant passed away recently, but he knew my father on sight and always had tequila shots ready).

I've enjoyed each trip and the locals have always been very friendly. Make an effort to learn some of their language and they tend to be more friendly yet.

Forget murders if you are law abiding. It is car jackings that are keeping even Mexicans worried. Areas that have always been safe are now scary with the car thefts. Keep in mind that these road blocks sometimes end up with r-p-s and beatings. One jerk jacking a car is no big deal. A bunch of meth heads is different. I have never known a tourist or his family that was murdered. But we all know of people who in the last few years have been robbery victims. Even some of the truckers that travel from Sonora to Sinaloa travel in groups.Trailer thefts on that route are rampant.

There are people who live here. I live in the middle of Tierra Caliente. When the people in Mexico at the embassy learn where I live, the look on their face is like I have chosen to live in the Korean DMZ or at Kandahar in Afghanistan.

Why is it some of us manage to thrive in "red zone" areas? Is it blind luck. An ability to control the roulette wheel of safety? No sense in discussing it since the person is stupid enough to live there?

Shut your eyes and close your ears to remarks from people who live here. Now -that's- the way to learn. Absorb and commit to bible grade confidence articles written by reporters written in New York City and on Reforma Ave in Mexico. You know, the ones who convince you they are salty because they eat a burrito once a week.

Very few authentic old-timers are vociferous. They have given up and have long become silent. Mexicanos on the other hand are like Americans who gaze in wonder as busloads of Japanese tourists debark and start snapping a thousand images of Yosemite Park. Mexicanos would feel no less uncomfortable barging into a group of Americanos than you would approaching the Japanese.

First off my comment was a light hearted comment on a serious subject. Not at all practical, I suppose.
As far as who is getting murdered by Narco Gangs and other categories of Criminals, there was some reports on the number of American tourist becoming rather high. i didn't notice but there probably is on Canadians too.
Teachers, Journalist, Political Candidates, at all levels of government, School kids, College Kids who speak out, and Community Members protesting or speaking out against the Narco Gangs and others.
Carjackings, primarily of Tourists, Robberies and violent assaults, is a rather large number. I read of these things when they show in the media and other sources but didn't bookmark them.
Tourists and Tourist hot spots are increasingly targets, because that is where the money is. Narco Gangs do many, but other described gangs, and just individual or groups of ordinary criminals commit as many or more. and then the kidnappings for ransom.
If you stay away from bars and known trouble spots, of course your chances of not being victim goes up, just like staying out of Chicago, you vastly improve your chances to not be a victim.
Travel by day in convoys your chances go up, of not being a victim.
Everyone that travels there and has not been victimized, more power to you. When do you next roll the dice?
I remember some really nice people and some great beaches and fishing but that was along time ago. And I felt very safe, except in the countryside at night. Any campsite if not seen the first day will the second. The reach of the Law is only when the criminals see them in Mexico. Very little respect for it. That is why bribery is so much part of the culture.
Sure go have fun and be safe but it is still roll of the dice. Tourist have the vehicles, rvs and money they want.
Criminals are in every country, every society, but the chances of being a victim and murdered, in Mexico is like war zone.
