San Diego (Encinitas) to Borrego Springs...
Looks like 76 and 78 are the two options. Either way it looks pretty hairy at the end.

Stay on the 78 until you get to S3 Yaqui Pass, takes you into the other side of Borrego, that's an easy drive no sharp curves or steep down hills.
