Living in San Diego, and off-roading in the high desert, we ALWAYS use the 15. It's a lot better road (is the 215/91/60 interchange EVER going to be finished?), and usually faster. If you're not towing, just stay in the left lane and you don't have to bother with the interchanges at 91, 60, and 10.
Be sure and check the wind conditions thru Rancho Cucamonga, and Devore. Travelling on a Tuesday, you shouldn't have any problems.
