Aluminum Skirting

Has anyone replaced damaged aluminum skirting near the wheels and long the length of your camper. I'm looking for some material that I can replace the damaged material. Also looking for some information on how to do a repair on my campers aluminum skirt due to tire damage.

thanks
  • Can you post a photo of the damaged area? That might help us visualize the work and materials needed better.

X2 and depends on how your RV was made. For me, fixing was not a problem. J wrap just tacked on my trailer. But getting materials got real expensive quick. Could only order 12 foot piece, so had to ship regular truck not UPS and paid $75.00 "crating" fee to get crated before it could be shipped. Then had to get it painted.

Posting some pics would be very helpful.

Here's an old thread that might help you in the mean time.

I have the same question. I have attached a picture of the damage on the side of the trailer. Any thoughts on repairs?
  • Call manufacture and see if you are lucky, and can get "J metal wrap" from him or his source. Hopefully already painted your color.

Take off trim and install new J metal and re-install trim. Sounds easy, but will take more time than you'd think. If J wrap is plastic, try Camping world first. They used to or still do have the plastic in shorter lengths.

Camping world number... Catalog Item # 68922 for white.

Here is a link for some other parts that get messed up when tires or (gas pumps, sprinklers, etc) get in the way.

That looks like a pretty easy piece to fabricate from an aluminum sheet readily available at most home improvement stores, usually in 4'x2' "handi-panels". Most body shop paint suppliers can match the color if you can't find a close match in the standard auto touch-up paints at many auto parts stores.

"Skirting" is what you see in trailer parks - covering the perimeter around the trailer (where your brick is sitting on the photo).

What you need is a piece of aluminum "siding" for your particular model. Most dealers will be able to get it. They might send you a piece with straight ends in 6" increments, so you'll have to cut it to size. Specify the length and model year. Or - better yet - come in person with a sample, to make sure that the width and color are what you need. Cut out a vertical strip next to the damage and put a duct tape for now, you'll throw it to garbage anyway.

Just replaced a 5 ft long piece of corrugated aluminum on my trailer.
  • I repaired my damaged Jayco Designer after a tire blew. I purchased a sheet of painted aluminum that was scratched fairly reasonable from a local metal distributor. I used a piece of PVC pipe that closely matched the radius and slowly bent the edge of the sheet to form the curve at the bottom. It was not identical but after everything was put back together, you could not tell. The paint matched perfect but it was white. The whole repair not including a new fender trim from Jayco was less than what Jayco wanted for shipping.
