San Felipe, Baja!!!!!!!

My other concern is temps in Nov & Dec. If it is too cold we will make another return to Kino Bay & San Carlos. Needs to be warmer than it is here in Southern AZ or no reason to leave home. Home is good when it is not cold.

We did a trip this winter to San Felipe in mid-January, our first, and stayed a month at Club de Pesca RV. We drove in from Mexicali and did enjoy our time there, but harboured little hope that it would be warmer that the Southwest USA. We were correct, for that time of the year we stayed. We also ventured to Puerto Penasco having bypassed it seven time as we hurried to warmer climes to the south.

Baja Nomads forum must have more local info. They are mostly in homes and cabins though, not in RV, so their perception of warm and cold might be different. It's usually just one or two degrees warmer in Northern Cortez sea than in South AZ, if at all, so don't count on it. November should be fine, December can be cold after sunset. "Nomads" is a misnomer for that forum, IMO. By definition, nomadic tribes are those that are on the move most of the time, and "Baja Nomads" are not. But they do know RV camps in the area.

We have found we do not get to where we consider warm until we are well south of Mazatlan.

Only time I have been there is July and it was definably warm.

You mean the ones made out of poured concrete with no insulation, or 1/2" plywood with no insulation? Halfway down the peninsula I have awakened to 49 degree mornings rising to 63 and a stiff wind. The only dependable warmer winter weather is found at the capes.

For consistent warm weather in the winter one has to go south of Manzanillo Colima. It was no joke that for three weeks I went to bed in 53 degree December weather in Boca de Iguanas. South of Manzanillo, a December morning is around 72 rising to the eighties in the afternoon. Depends on your definition of the word "warm".

All that "cool" weather sounds good to me. It's been over 37C for the last two months. We wake up at 25C. So we are heading to SMA until September to escape the heat. Warm days, cool nights. Can't wait.

Years ago, as a fly-in at San Jose del Cabo, BCS, we found ourselves in a small group trying a manufacture vitamin- D under a brilliant sun, but we were all shivering in the wind, though our backs were against a concrete wall that blocked most of that wind. It was the first week in February, but too cold to be comfortable doing what we wanted most.

We enjoyed winters in Mexico most in the area south of Puerto Vallarta, on the Costa Alegra. The ocean is warm and the sun shines nearly every day, some winters see no rain, 65 F. to 72 in the mornings and high 80's by afternoon. Water temperatures 85 in November, decreasing to 77 by the first of March.

It was difficult some afternoons at San Felipe to get everyone out to have Happy Hour, when the wind was blowing hard. On some days we'd hunker down behind someone's toad, backs to the water, and the wind. Nice to be near the water, though, after four winters in the desert.

We have spent the last 10 winters in San Felipe. For us, October and November are 'just right'. Toward the end of December to first of March
'a little cool', but much better than Arkansas. :)

Yes we didn't make it. Went to Florida instead but not again. Headed South this winter but still have not firmed up plans. Mainland, Baja or Both? We have to be in AZ in Jan for business so we have to return making Both a reasonable option and the greatest possibility. Baja is the prettiest in the Fall after the monsoon season and Mid-Southern Mainland is the warmest for Feb & March. If we do Baja we won't make it to San Felipe again.
