The sad reality is that the internet can be the WORST way to try to find a rental at reasonable prices in areas where there are lots of tourists or foreigners. Most of those ads are aimed at the affluent tourist market, not locals.
Your best bet is to go there stay in an inexpensive hotel and look for rental signs and talk to the locals both expat and Mexican to find what you want.
However for a stay of only a few months you will not likely find anyone who wants to rent for such a short period at a "normal" rate.
My guess is (not having been there since the 70's) that prices will be fairly high regardless of how you do it.
