San Jose to Buellton - Cuesta Grade?

Want to go to Buellton from San Jose. I have heard that the Cuesta Grade can be pretty scary. I have a 35ft 5th wheel. Is it better to take 46 to 1 to 101 or should I tackle the Cuesta Grade
