Sault St Marie (over the lakes) to Vermont Need Help

Oh how plans change; We are in Sault St Marie and need to get to Upper Vermont faster then planed. I have the route all planed out on Streets and Trips (2010). Now that we are here and looking at maps I see Transcon 17 but 17 has different letters 17a,17b, ect.. I am confused, I just want to make sure the route I have planed is the quickest...

Someone told me about avoiding Montreal by using the newly opened bridge (highway 30 I think)???????

I just need your input on which total route I can take. I do not have the best internet (hotspot on my phone) where I am and I'll read the responses as soon as I can.....
The route I show takes me through Sudbury, Ottawa, Montreal, then south to Vermont

Thanks in Advance Lee

  • You have probably already made your trip. But if not, from Sualt Ste Marie we took Hwy 17..changed to TC17 which changes to 417. On the south side of Ottawa we took 138 south to Cornwall crossing into New York. Took the Roosevelt Hwy bridge over the top of Lake Champlain and then hwy 2 to hwy 78 to hwy 7/89 south to Vermont. We wanted to visit Ben and Jerry's ;-).
  • Part of Hy 30 will not be on the your version of S&T. The signage is good. Follow the 30 Ouest Tracey/Sorel until you see the signs for 15 or the 10/55 to interstate 91.
Toll for you should be $7.40 cdn.
  • Where in NH are you actually going to? We've traveled those roads to both NH and VT a number of times through Canada with our 36' 5th wheel and may be able to suggest a fast route for you.
  • Thanks so much we are actually going to New Hampshire and Vermont was the closest..... I think....

    Thanks again

    17 to Ottawa

    417 Ottawa toward Montreal

At Quebec, 417 becomes Quebec 40

At Vaudreuil, west of Montreal, go straight on 30 instead of staying on 40 to Montreal. If I recall, it's a tricky interchange.

30 goes all the way round Montreal on the South Shore

South on 15 toward US or which ever way you prefer.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I would use.

Depending what part of Vermont you are heading to, there are several routes once you clear Montreal.

  • 17 all the way to the Montreal area.

I don't know the new Montreal bypass. PackerBacker is a Montreal area person. But route 30 rings a bell
