sault ste marie to ottawa

thinking of going to Oshkosh fly in. When over we want to go through UP and into Canada via trans Canadian Highway 17? to Ottawa. We have never been this way before and probably will not be again so we want to see the not to be missed things along the way. What are they?

for real though Fitzroy provincial park is a good stop close to Ottawa. the Ottawa river offers some good white water rafting also. Owl was the guide I used. had a great time
  • Oshkosh is a blast even if you are not a pilot. Did 4 nights there a few years back. Never did go into the buildings where all of the avionics are. Plenty to see outside & people always happy to talk planes. Pretty good museum that can occupy a day right there at the airfield.
  • Sault Ste. Marie has the bush plane museum. Well worth a visit.
http://www.bushplane.com/ .It has the history of forest fighting in Ontario, and has several old water bombers on display.

Extremely high fuel prices in Wawa. Avoid buying there if you can.

Just check your fuel before you leave Wawa though. It's almost 100 miles to Montreal River before you can reasonably expect to get fuel again. That's about the only long stretch you will encounter without fuel available.

Science North and/or nickel mine tours at Sudbury are worth doing if you are into that sort of thing.
  • you must take the train ride from the sault... http://www.agawatrain.com/

also there is a cool railway museum near elliot lake ...

sudbury mines can be fun... been a while since we have stopped there as we usually run through at night.

ontario is an amazing province with so much to do and see - rich in canadian history.

i realize you have a destination in mind but if you need another - blue berry hill campground in goulette river is fantastic

sorry for the typos, im on my phone and auto correct can be a pain
  • If you are going to the fly-in and are interested in aircraft ,the sault has the bush plane museum ,outstanding displays in a hanger near the waterfront.
  • you dont go near wawa going from the soo to ottawa on 17!
  • Unless you drive up the coast (and enjoy the incredibly beautiful drive along the eastern end of Lake Superior) and take 101 to 11. :)
