- pigman1ExplorerOn the Garden State Parkway in northern New Jersey an RV is permitted but watch some of the arched bridges in the area around where it crosses the NJ Turnpike. Driving lanes are OK but if you decide to try and sneak under on the right hand shoulder you could have a problem.

Need some local knowledge. What are the bridge clearances? A good hunt online has not yielded anythng specific to that road.
In NY..you can use Expressways.......... BUT NOT PARKWAYS....with RV'S or commercial vehicles - VeebyesExplorer III don't need any surprises changing my 5er into a convertable so routes northbound, using Taconic, & southbound, using Sawmill, have been changed.
An RVer has to know his limitations. - yrusosloExplorerNot uniformed in NY. Some Parkways you can go on,
others you can't. - pasusanExplorer

Having traveled with the trailer on the Baltimore Washington Parkway in MD many, many times we were unpleasantly surprised about the Parkways in New York. We were pulling the trailer and following our GPS when we were routed onto the Taconic State Pkwy. We were escorted off by the police. :o
Hmmmm, OK. I know the bridges on some of the parkways are low. Thinking some on Long Island I've been on (car). Also recall being on a parkway somewhere in the NE pulling the trailer, not Sawmill though.
RVs are not commercial, unless being towed on delivery of course, so the restriction really is about height & bridges same as any other road.
Changing the route is no biggie but the parkway sure would be much more pleasant. - NY_RVerExplorerAs CloudDriver suggested, use 684, or 87, depending on where you are headed.
- CloudDriverExplorerI have used the Sawmill River Parkway numerous times - in a car. There are a number of very low bridges. Large vehicles are prohibited.
To add to what damoon posted, a House Coach is defined as "Any vehicle motivated by a power connected therewith or propelled by a power within itself, which is or can be used as the home or living abode or habitation of one or more persons, either temporarily or permanently. In the application of these regulations to house coaches, a house coach propelled by a power within itself shall be deemed a motor vehicle, a house coach motivated by a power connected therewith shall be deemed a trailer, and all house coaches shall be deemed vehicles."
