Scenic traveling:South from Tybee Island, Georgia

I am looking for travel and campground recommendations. I have my route and stops planned from home to Tybee Island, GA. I plan to leave soon for Tybee Island, GA. and travel as far south as St Augustine, FLA. I would like to stay off the interstate when possible in GA. and FLA. I would then head west over to the panhandle towards Destin. Also looking for stopping points, campgrounds, and beach recommendations for that route. I would appreciate suggestions for nice spots to visit and campgrounds. I like state parks. It's my first trip in my new travel trailer. Thanks.
  • You can take US90 from Jacksonville to Monticello, then south at exit 225 (hwy 57) to US27 to Hwy 261 at Tallahassee. That takes you to US319 south to US98.
Very slow travel on US98 so hope you're not in a hurry.
At Lake City FL, take US 41 north to Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs.
In the Panhandle near Destin: Topsail, Henderson Beach and Grayton State Parks are nice.
  • Ft Clinch on Amelia Island/Fernandina Beach, Fl is nice. It actually has two separate campground loops, with one having only about 12-15 sites with a walk over to the beach.

From Savannah, consider driving south on HW 17. It basically runs parallel to I-95. The town of Midway has a small museum, and and old historic church. Near Darien, consider dining at Mud Cat Charlies for good seafood. In Darien, Skippers also has good food.

In the Brunswick, Ga area, the Jekyll Island campground is good.

    Enjoy your trip.

  • Topsail Hill Preserve is a very nice state park near Destin. If you go before memorial day you shouldn't need reservations.
  • Anastasia S.P. in St.Augustine is very popular. Also Fort Clinch SP on Amelia Island
is nice. Both have nice beaches and bicycling/hiking possibilities.
