Seattle to the desert in february

We've weathered the pass between Bend, Oregon and the fog of Oregon coast. We're planning on heading south in February to Southern California. Wondering about routes to avoid the Siskiyous. Would an alternative route be to take 199 west out of Grants pass ? Or wait for weather to break and stay on I-5? 40' diesel pusher, new drivers.
  • Thanks. Seven Feathers looks like a nice option on I-5 and time the pass..
  • Check weather and road conditions on morning of your departure. US Hwy 395 could be a nice, non-boring alternative. (I'm thinking positive)
  • 101 south to Hwy. 20 east to I-5. I-5 to Southern Calif. or I-5 to Hwy. 46 to Hwy. 99, then 58 east to the desert areas.

This using 58 east through Tehachapi.
  • I-5 really is your easiest route, unless you want to cut over and drive along the coast.
  • Plenty of places to stay in Grants Pass and Medford if the weather is bad. Hit the Siskiyous around mid to late morning. Let the plows get done and the semi's to keep the road clear.

x2 Had more problems going over Mt Hood and Santiam - rarely had a problem going over the Siskiyou. If your really unlucky and the pass is an issue you can always stay at Seven Feathers Casino and wait for the weather to improve.
