Yes, you learn very quickly to avoid non-major roads in the hillt states, unless you know where you are going in advance. Don't even think about West VA, even the interstates. I-79 in particular. We like to avoid interstates, and have been caught several times by twisty roads and nasty hills. Check your maps ahead of time, and ask questions before you go. BTW, US 58 across the bottom of VA s a good route, EXCEPT the part that goes over the Blue Ridge Parkway. We have gone that way several times, we just stop at the top when going east, and take the toad off. Then DW drives it down ahead of me in the MH, and tells me via telephone about the road and vehicles coming toward me. About 6 miles down the mountain, then hook back up for a good easy run the rest of the way.
