89A has length restrictions - both north and south from Sedona. I presume you mean you are driving it with JUST the toad to the Grand Canyon.
You should stay at the Grand Canyon to fully appreciate it - sunrise and sunset. You will be spending more time on the road that seeing it otherwise coming from Sedona; beautiful but colors washed out in midday sun.
The 179 is fine.
Rancho Sedona is pretty and pretty expensive - have the old "only show in town syndrome" though. And can be tight on the roads inside the park.
