There's almost always a duty free and currency exchange at the border.
Other than that exchanging money at stores as mentioned is possible, and if not exchanging much probably wouldn't be a big deal, but they keep a pretty big slice generally. I was in a Wally World yesterday and noticed the little sign at the cash register, $1.17 was what they were giving for US funds. It's $1.28 at my bank currently.
