Snowstorm South Texas, Laredo and Beyond

We had snow this morning here south of Monterrey. I hadn´t seen the news in the morning but most of South Texas and Northern Mexico was covered in white.

I received a call around noon on my cell phone from an rver who had crossed the border at Laredo and was stuck on the autopista heading south towards Monterrey and then to Saltillo and beyond.

I found this great link for the Policia Federal and it said the toll road was closed because of snow. I also found more closures on the route they are taking and was able to pass it on to them.

Policia Federal Twitter

I´m sure many of you already know this twitter account.
  • As of this morning, the highway from Saltillo to Matehuala was still closed. Check the twitter account I posted for updates.
  • I saw it on the News and Weather last night that, that band of snow was coming up from Mexico, Southern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and then turning slightly upward. I laughed, because over Christmas week, we are take the camper to South Carolina. I chuckled to my wife and said, "Looks like our campsite is going to be under snow tomorrow!"

The weather map also included Indiana, and just about an hour ago, it started snowing where I live. And it's coming down at a pretty good clip right now too! I have my John Deere tractor all ready with my snow blower attached. Gonna have some fun this after noon! Country living at it's best!
  • Snow and ice on the roads in the Northern states of Mexico does happen, Mexico is sometimes ill equiped when it comes to snow removall, it is advisable to be prepared for winter conditions on what is called the Altiplano, that is between the Pacific mountain range and the Gulf of Mexico mauntain range, North Baja can also get snow in the higher elevations, I have actually seen snow on Paseoo de la Reforma in Mexico City many moons ago, it melted with in an hour so drive carefull be prepared, have the propane tank full for the cabin heater and do not let the gasoline or Diesel fuel tank go to low, also slow down a little, you do not see black ice!
