South America??

Has anyone actually RV-ed in S. America seeing as this sub-forum has S. America in the subject? Would you rent an RV there, or somehow ship one there?

My bucket list has a visit there, but not very likely in an RV. Have been thinking of a month or more in Argentina some day. Maybe just to Buenos Aires, but a road trip somewhere around the country would be interesting. Don't want go anywhere where it's risky. Just saw an episode of Top Gear where they drove from the north to the southern tip of Argentina (only to be kicked out of the country due to long-standing dispute over the Falklands) and the scenery is amazing. The roads in some parts of the south look pretty rough, but they detoured into Chile for part of the trip.

If anyone has visited/toured S. America, just wondering what it was like, with or without an RV and how you researched it in advance. I've found it difficult to find much decent travel info. or info. on culture, society, geography, etc. I bought a few DVDs, but again, not much available.

  • There are people who visit this forum who have done it and they can probably give you tips on where to find info. Don't listen to the nay sayers who always come on here saying they are too afraid to go anywhere. We have been roaming all over Mexico during the winter for quite a few years and never had a bit of trouble. To get to South America you have to travel some rougher roads and then we have heard you have to load the RV on a ferry to get to Columbia. Hopefully someone who actually knows something will see your post and come on with some useful info. Keep checking back.
  • Have you researched this? It's a wild place . I would'nt even consider it personally knowing what I do. So much to see here at home.
