South Jersey to Disney World

Looking for alternate routes to Disney from South Jersey. I usually go 301 South to Richmond then 95 South to I4 to Disney. What are your suggestions especially with parts of 95 closed in North Carolina. Thanks

  • You could try the Cape May-Lewes Ferry into Delaware then stay on US 13 to Virginia Beach (across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel) both have added tolls $$$$ then stay on US 13 to US 17 hugging the coast toward Myrtle Beach then go back out to 95 in South Carolina.
Longer but no DC and the worst of 95 is avoided.
  • OK. I thought your whole purpose was to just avoid the flooding stuff. All kinds of talk is going on about how long it will be before I-95 can be opened back up. I heard this morning talk of early November before it does open up completely.

We're headed to Ocean Lakes Friday. So I'm certainly watching to keep up with the statues of the road. I-40 has now opened back up from I-95 to Wilmington. We may just do that.

November is such a long time away in the grand scheme of this flooding but I think many of the bridges took such a beating, they have to be inspected and possibly repaired first.

But if you're looking for a whole other way to go to avoid 95, I'd do the I-85 thing to either Atlanta or Charlotte. I-85 to Charlotte and then I-77 to Columbia and then I-26 until you get back to I-95 in southern SC.

    When are you coming through?

Early November. Looking to avoid DC traffic and a nicer ride than 95 South.
  • I just went from NY to all the way south in Florida. I caught I85 off I95 at Richmond. Took I85 to Atlanta and caught I75 soth to Florida, then Florida Turnpike the rest of the way. This added 220 miles to my normal I95 all the way down route. A good alternative IMO.
  • While waiting I would look at Google Maps and click and move the suggested route to avoid I-95.
The only alternative seems to take 22 hours instead of the 15 via I-95.
  • A friend is going from the Adirondacks to north of Tampa and changed his route to I-81 to I-75. You can still do 301 to Richmond, but then pick up I-64 to get to I-81. From what I've read it's the Carolinas that have the flooding issues on I-95.
