U.S. hwy 160 is an excellent hwy with beautiful scenery.
You will go over two passes, the first being N. La Veta pass which is only 9300' or so. No problems here.
The one you referred to east of Pagosa is notorious Wolf Creek Pass. It will not be a problem IF you gear down, go slow, pay attention, and not let other vehicle try to get you to go faster. If crowded by others, pull over and let them go.
