Without more clarification, I will a route we have used going east. You have to start by realising that the megapolis is right along the coast, so that is where yo do not want to be. I am in Michigan, but you would want to look at heading for Cleveland via Columbus. When close to Cleveland, target I-271 and take that to I-90. When you pass Erie (PA) shift to I-86. Take that to I-81 then I-88 to Schenectady. There will be a short fight through Albany/Troy and then you have to decide if you want scenic or the Ma$$ Pike. If you like scenic, you want to head out of Troy on 7/9 to at least Keene. Then there are state roads that will take you to Nashua. Then make you way to I-95 at Windham and now you can work interstates (I'm sketchy) to I-95. If you don't want the toll road, drop off I-95 before New Hampshire and switch to Rt-1. Rt-1 is not a fast road, but it is scenic most of the way and you can always elect to pay the tolls and go back to I-95.
