Southwest Michigan to Florida

We are looking to make a trip from Southwestern Michigan to Orlando possibly this summer but probably not until next summer. We have made this trip many times but this would be a first taking the camper. We normally take I24 from Nashville to Chattanooga. But is there a different rout that is feasible to not go through Monteagle? Was thinking going from Nashville to Birmingham to Atlanta but that does add some time.

Main concern is the up and down of the mountain have not done anything like that pulling a trailer and would like to avoid it if possible as well.

Also looking for options of where to stay and it would be in that area as well. Either Northern Georgia or somewhere near there.
  • If your going to avoid Monteagle you may as well skip Atlanta. Take I-65 to Montgomery and 231 to Dothan then drop down to I-10.

Agree completely. I start out in Cincinnati and jog over to I-65 to avoid Atlanta when heading to Florida. I'd drive thru Kansas City if it was the only way to avoid Atlanta.

    X3
  • I agree with Peg Leg, definitely down I-65 to Montgomery then US231 south through Dothan to I-10. Depending upon where in FL you're going you can take I-10 to I-75, but we usually go south on US19/98. It's mostly 4 lane and a LOT less traffic than I-75. You can always cut over to I-75 via 98 through Brooksville. Good roads all the way. Just came down this way on January 19-20.

In high school I recall playing sports against a couple of Abshagans from Decatur. Late 60s. I'm originally from Hartford.

    Have a nice trip.
  • Deer Run in Troy Alabama is a very nice stop over on 231 on your way to Florida.
