St Jacobs Market in Waterloo region
Some very sad news. St. Jacobs market burned to the ground the other night. Some may say, so a market, what is there to lose?
The market has been going forever. It has grown tremendously. The market is the largest in the area and supports hundreds of vendors. The building that burned housed most of the meat/cheese vendors. Also upstairs many vendors with such things as local quilts etc. The market is in the middle of the largest Mennonite/Amish population in Ontario, I am thinking Canada if right. Vendors come from miles to sell their products, 3 days a week in the summer and 2 in the fall/winter. It is a very popular tourist destination bringing in many buses of tourists.
Thursdays is the livestock market also, which brings in added customers.
Today, thursday they are going to try and continue the best they can outside. Until clean up is done and rebuilding is complete a lot of people are going to suffer financially.
We are sad that our market has been damaged but being the community we are it will not be long until all is well again.
If you are in the area, please try to visit on a sat or thurs and support these local farmers by buying their fresh products.
For information on the market look up St Jacobs Market, Waterloo region, Ontario. The region itself has lots to offer people.
