STL to Destin, FLA

Any help on best route for a 35' MH, NOT TOWING. Down 55 TO 10 to Destin or down 64 to Nashville to 65?
Seems like 55 might have less traffic, but I don't know.
thanks

camp gulf is our destination.. seems the 331 is our best bet,
    thanks all for responding.
  • Which side of Destin are you coming in to? Where are you staying?

If you are staying in Destin proper, you might want to also look at taking I-65 to Georgiana (AL HWY 55). Take that to Andulusia and you can either take Hwy 137 to Florida and cross in to Destin on the Mid-bay bridge.

If you are staying more east of Destin, then I'd consider the 331 route.
  • It's right around 150 miles and will usually take me about 3 hours. 331 varies from 4 lane divided at 65 mph to 1 lane each direction going through a couple of small towns. Luverne and Florala are the 2 towns where you have to make turns, but they are nice older towns and I enjoy seeing that part of America avery now and then.

There is some construction south of Defuniak Springs as they are making it into a 4 lane divided, but having traveled that recently it only effects a short section at a time. I would avoid Saturdays on 331 south as it seems the whole world is going to the beach that day. The bridge over the bay there is a non toll bridge unlike the one from Niceville to Destin.

thanks, is 331 a pretty good highway? 2 or 4 lane? and about how far down 331 from Montgomery to 98?
  • What Silverark said, and then 331 from Montgomery, Al to Hwy 98 just east of Destin. Driven that route about 10 times now, and is the most reliable.
