We have S&T on our lap top. Will it be of any use in Mexico? Should we put any S&T information on the lap top before we start out?

I've never had trouble opening older trip files with S&T 2013 - including files created with 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
What I do get is a warning that the 2013 is a new version of the map, and the old file has to be reconciled and matched against the new map.
Some custom items don't come through, and some routings don't come through correctly because they used new roads in 2013 which are not in the older versions. Occasionally waypoints/ POI are unrecognizable and left out, or moved due to new data.
