Planning a trip with our TT to Virginia. Never been there before and would like suggestions on what to see and do. We have a week. Thanks John
Oh, any recommendations for campgrounds would be greatly appreciated as well.
We've live in Va for the past 30 yrs and just in the last 5 or so have concentrated on seeing some of the wealth of things to see and do here in the Commonwealth. We just got back from spending 17 days in the Richmond/Petersburg area. As far as Campgrounds that would depend on where you decide to go and there is no way to list all the recommendations w/o having specifics. It all depends on what your interests are and putting aside all the Smithsonian stuff some of our favorites leaving out theme type parks in no particular order are:
1. Colonial Williamsburg - that alone takes a week since there are a lot of presentations/activities that are not done daily, but on certain days of the week.
2. Historic Jamestown and make sure you take in the Guided tour that details a lot of the archeology work that has been done. Adjacent is the commercial Jamestown Settlement attraction that is decent and both can be done in one day.
3. The White House and Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond. There is a wealth of Civil War objects that have been collected starting back in 1896. There is also an interesting trolley type tour. Both of these can be done in one day.
We are currently planning on about 10 days in the Charlottesville area to visit the Appomattox Museum, Courthouse, Montecello, and Montpelier. Montpelier is a standout because of the renovation and documentation that has been going on for the past 20 or so years.
If you have any specific questions ask and someone should be able to help you.
