Hey Gary.....some trivia....way too many years ago there used to be a few white Swans that would winter in a slough on the Skeena side of the hiway just west of the Exstew......must be a small hot spring that comes up into the river water there because it never froze over.....
There are still swans up on the Exstew River..about 3k`s from the highway. Too bad I hadn`t seen your note...could have grabbed a shot.
Gary Haupt - garyhauptExplorerThe weekend run was fabulous. Sun was out and Prince Rupert was as pretty a spot as you could ask for. Got in about 4pm and met up with some friends for dinner at the Ocean View Hotel. Ribs were the `thing`....and were right on great.
We parked in the upside of the Wal-Mart lot...
Our view in the morning.
Took this on the bridge just after the Port Edwards turn-off.
We headed off about 1 am from Prince Rupert and east up the Skeena to the Exstew turn off...
And Z-Peller...the swans are still there but about 2k`s up the Exstew Road, sitting in the pond. We saw them and speculated there must be a hot pool in there.
The pix will be up on the Blog Tuesday morning if you want to look.

- Johnny_G1ExplorerThe sun was turned on in september 1986 for 3 days that we were there, took momma's new Honda up to the top of Mt Hayes to have a good look out in the ocean, could see triple rock that day, but the floor mats burnt up from the catalytic going up the hill. Just about burnt the car up, would have been a good hike back to town.

- Whoa! Sun in Rupert?
Thats gotta be something new!! :)
My father used to live in Rupert so I would drive there from Penticton for the weekend. Long drive for a 16 hour visit.
I have never even once seen the sun shine there. Always thick fog on 100% of my visits.
You're a lucky guy Gary! Please take a picture for me - Lol. - Steve_S1ExplorerSounds like a nice trip! Are you going to post pics along the way?
- rbrandExplorerHi Gary
If I remember right the Sun went "out" in Prince Rupert about 1960 and hasn't been seen much since.
