Long story short, Im eventually gonna get down there and get my RV. and when I do, governor DeSantis will be very happy that me, and my money, will be out of his state. There are other states in the southeast that have very similar, or are trying to, implement tax advantages to retiring there...
Unfortunately you are probably the exception... not like a NYCityit in our park that flew down this past Friday (NY quarantine in place does not apply to him). Is out and about ( Florida’s 14 day in place doesn’t apply to him), even going into the office (sign on door “If you are recently from NY, call DO NOT COME IN!). Even went swimming with a similar sign that the pool was closed if you had recently come from NY.
Why does SE Florida have more cases than the rest of Fla? Could it be all the people from NY that can’t read and are hard of hearing? - profdant139Explorer IIfourthclassC, I think that rescuing her with the RV is a great plan. Yes, it does put you at more risk than just hunkering down in your living room, but it probably involves less risk to her than putting her onto a flight. At least with the RV, you are in control of cleanliness, unlike public transportation.
Do you have more than one person who can drive the rig, so that you can keep rolling as much as possible? Since you won't be stopping at RV parks, do you have a way to empty your tanks at home?
Also (and you probably already know this), bring a lot of plastic bags (like the market uses for produce) and wear them on your hands as disposable gloves when you get gas. I also use rubber bands around my wrists so that the bags don't flop around.
Good luck, and let us know how it went!! - dedmistonModerator

So sorry for that. Tensions are high and the keyboard bullies are going wild.
I deleted the posts from one of the repeat offenders.
Good luck with your mother in-law. This sounds like a difficult trip. - ghostrider421Explorer

Lots of mean spirited posts here. I am not going down to Fla for the fun of it. My mother in law is 80 and with the way things are going if something happens to her we will not be able to go visit, or go advocate for her if any thing bad happens. Originally I thought the best place for her was in Fla, but with the way things are going not so any more. Believe me I am old and high risk also and the last thing I want to do is leave my home.....
Nope just telling you the truth. The state added more roadblocks. The one we got caught up in was backed up five (5) miles.
Why don't you just fly her out. My Uncle - who I just buried in MT - flew up until last December was 92. - fourthclassCExplorerThanks for all the replies. The entire reason for going down to pick her up with the RV is so there will be no outside exposure at rest stops and the one overnight won't be in a hotel. No or absolute min. stops. Planning to get in and get out and get home as fast as possible. I can't be the only one in this situation, thinking this as the best use of the RV.

I'm a NYer, and the last couple of years, been looking to resettle in the state of florida. I have family there, and good, close friends that I take pleasure in going to see. Ive been snowbirding there the last 6 or so years, found a place to move, but it fell through. This season, I was unable to get down there for personal reasons, but left my RV down there to pick it back upo about now. Then coronavirus hit... This morning, I saw DeSantis on TV, and he said, 'if youre from NY, stay away, we don't want you.' I understand the sentiment, but I bet he sure loves our money. I understand the sentiment, and have been self quarantining in NY for about 3 weeks now. I'm chomping at the bit to get down there, and have cancelled 2 reservations so far to autotrain it down.

We are going to get through this. when the smoke clears, we'll get through it. That sentiment of 'us against them' is hurtful. If everybody did their part, and practiced what they're being told to do, I'd like to think we wouldn't be in a fix, the scale we're in.
Just had to vent....
I really do not think it is "us against them " .... I think that they KNOW they cannot make everybody happy at all times, so they chose to take actions to TRY and assist their state..
I'm sorry your unable to get there, but look at the bigger picture,,, it not them against YOU...
I hope WE ALL get back to normal sooner , than later..- tenspeedret360ExplorerI'm a NYer, and the last couple of years, been looking to resettle in the state of florida. If there is a non stop flight, I would probably have her take it. Extensive hand washing and NEVER touching your face is all I would have her do while traveling with her own food.
This might be the best way, a friend recently had to fly for work and they said there were only three passengers on the whole plane! - johnhicksExplorerIvylog, that's a great idea! While it may seem sort of uncaring, it's probably the quickest and safest way to get her up north.
fourthclassC, if you come to Florida, assuming you're in a "safe" area, fully stock your RV and don't stop for anything besides gas and rest. No grocery stores, no hotdogs at a gas station, no using a restroom at a rest stop None of that, no exceptions. Everyone stays aboard and rides, no wandering around. - IvylogExplorer IIIFriday I went from SE Fla to N GA... 700 miles using I-95, Turnpike, I-75. Moderate traffic, few LEO, and only 1 idiot driver in Atlanta. Set the cruise on 68 and rarely had to slow down and bought diesel N of Atlanta for $2./gallon.
