Tehachapi or Grapevine to Joshua Tree National Park?

I've always preferred the Tehachapi route when going east from the Bakersfield area over to Joshua Tree and other points. Can be a little slippery if snowing but there is a lot less traffic to deal with which makes it our preferred highway.
