hwy. 58 is a good road and if it snows it is usually just for day until they plow it. It does not snow that often where they have to close the road. I have been using 58 for 20 yrs. and have not had the Hwy. closed to snow. I have traveled and seen snow on the side of the road. Check road conditions about 50 miles before you get to Bakersfield for closers due to snow. If the road is closed then you can stay at a RV park right on Hwy 58 at Bakersfield until the road is opened. Call Cal Trans Road conditions 800-427-7623 for current road conditions/closers. You also want to check the wind conditions. There is also an app you can put on your iPhone. I would be more concerned about going over the mt. range right out of Ashland Or.
