Tepic bypass is open

This is new, it does not even show on my GPS which I just updated maps on. It leaves just after the toll booth heading up the hill on 15D and joins 15D again well east of Tepic. 107 pesos for my truck towing a travel trailer. This is fine if you are headed for Guadalajara, but do not use it if you are headed to PV. The section from 15D to Compostela is not open as I found out the hard way and had to do a 50 km detour. The new cuota to San Blas is off the same exit, and also appears to be open.
  • Could be a map of the road below? Found on Open Street Maps. Could be on GPS before too long.

  • yes that is it, but it currently ends at the hwy 15 libre. The signs fro Compostino are there, but barricades across. It was signed for it (and PV) close to the begining as well. That left the option of going east 30 km or doubling back to Xalisco to get to PV. The reason i took in the first place was to try and avoid Xalisco.
  • In March of 2012 we had shifting problems with the Allison transmission at Compestela en route to PV. Next day a service truck arrived from Guadalajara and were unable to resolve the issue. They suggested that we drive to the shop in Guadalajara and they would follow in the service truck. Without going into details (Available on our BLOG) another issue (loss of air)developed at the toll booth to the 15D from Compestela. They were able to repair it and also then found and repaired the burnt wiring causing the shifting problem.

20km further south at Ahuacatlán we were able to make a returno and head north on the 15D. Northbound we didn't notice (or don't remember) seeing an exit from the 15D to Compestela.

Our question: IS there an exit to Compestela southbound from that point on the 15D? It might be worth taking the bypass then back to Compestela. Certainly it might be worth it north bound from PV to avoid the road from Compestela through Xalisco.
  • Can anyone confirm if the new Tepic to San Blas is open? We are on our way there. Friend who is San Blas told me a week ago it wasn't to his knowledge.
  • I can't help with whether it is open or not but here is a map from Open Street Maps and they usually do not put a road on until it is open - which doesn't mean I know anything or that the road is open.

  • The entrance to it was not barricaded and it was signed, so I am assuming it is open
  • Called my friend in San Blas and the road is open part way but not all the way to San Blas. It is barracaded and torn up at the end. Not sure how far down it is open but do not try going to San Blas on that route. I will use the alternative route. Crossing border at Nogales in morning.
  • Are you going to review it for us, please?

Also curious as to where the Jala/Compastela roads joins up. We suspect that they all end up at Compastela, which is still a long hall from PV.
  • I will post my experience from Nogales to San Blas.
San Carlos tomorrow, Los Mochis Pemex next night, Mazatlan RV park one night, then on to San Blas. Meeting up with friends in El Chaco hotel and RV park for three weeks then on to LDM. Can't wait to have a cold one on the beach!
