I am afraid the only option in this case is a long detour around the pass.
I fully understand your problem. We have frequently traveled with another couple. And the other lady (and my wife to a lesser extent) is very much afraid of heights. Their solution was to get a bag of chips and, with head down, munch on chips until we passed the high areas. By never looking out, they never knew when when it was flat or steep off the side of the road. May or may not work for you.
And yes, there are always those who really have nothing to contribute but feel compelled to comment any way.
