Texas Lorado to Mission

First winter in area and would like to try wandering on back roads. Using google maps I am considering from Laredo taking 309 to Hebbonville then 1017 to 681 to 492 into Mission. I don't mind moving slow and going thru many small towns but are these roads OK for a 40 footer towing or should I just stick to 83.
  • We've spent several winters around Zapata. While I've never been on the highways you asked about, most highways in the area are good. You'll be in a wide open, fairly level area. The towns will be small, if there at all. Chip & Seal 2 lane pavement. No traffic until you get close to the Mission area.
Hwy 83 will be good also. From Laredo to Roma, you only have Zapata. From Roma to Mission it is one town, with traffic, after another.
If you like the slower pace of back roads, I see no problems.
    Enjoy.
