Texas to Florida

we have been to TX from FL and back many times. We go through Wichita Falls to Decatur TX and take US380 east. (at Denton you can follow the truck route or go straight thru). In Greenville TX take US69 south to I-20. In Jackson MS, take US49 south to I-10. I-10 to US331 south to Santa Rosa Beach. Once you get your route established, we can help with stops.

Thanks sdianel,,That is the route I had looked at except you lost me at US 331.. I cant find it.. I was looking at going on over to 87 and going south..First night planned at EAST TEXAS RV PARK in just south of Greenville..open to suggestions for the next night.Thanks for your help.I really appreciate it..

Hey T bone...you looked at the reviews of that EAST TEXAS RV PARK?
Check out Wind Point Park on Lake Tawakoni. Right off 69 near Lone Oak. A bit more expensive though.

Txgearhead....As long as there is electric and water i will be happy.. Just a place to stop for the night. And also as long as it is not in a high crime area.!

I found 331.i will use 87. 331 too far east for me.

At Mobile is it better to go through on 98 or go around to the north on 65 and I65?

We go through Wichita Falls to Decatur TX and take US380 east.

We used to take this route but it has become extremely congested with many traffic lights and small towns north of Dallas.

Instead we now take US 82 at Henrietta, TX to either Sherman where we take US 69 or stay on US 82 all the way to Texarkana and then south on I-49.

At Mobile is it better to go through on 98 or go around to the north on 65 and I65?

I can't remember the highway numbers, but my GPS guided me to a good route from US 98 to connect with I-65 or even to a direct connect with I-10 near downtown Mobile. Wish I could be more specific, but if you look it up on Google Maps I think you will see the route we have taken on recent trips. The alternative is to stay on US 98 to I-65 and zip around south to I-10.

Really going thru the small towns and avoiding the DFW Metroplex won't save much, if any time. For me, the worst part of the drive to Amarillo is on Hwy 287 north of Wichita Falls. Having to stop and slow down in all the small towns. If it were me:

287 to I-35--> south on I35 to Loop 820 in Ft Worth (about 3 miles) --> west on loop 820 to drop down to I-20 in Benbrook (about 15 miles) --> I-20 to Jackson MS--> S on Hwy 49 to Hattisburg MS which changes to Hwy 98 --> I10 in Mobile to Pensacola

As always, try to plan you drive thru the big cities during the non-peak hours. Usually that's AM and from about 4ish-6:30 PM the rest of the time around here
