I always find it interesting when some people decry the economic progress of countries they like to visit. It's as if somebody came in and is changing Disneyland.
Mexico is not becoming more like the US and Canada...it is becoming like the entire rest of the developed world, Singapore, Thailand. China, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. and on and on.
It seems to me to be the height of neo-colonial arrogance to hope that an entire country be kept out of the economic progress of the world because it might change your favorite vacation spot.
People all over the world want what the rest of us have had and have taken for granted for years. It is not up to us to decide for them how they go about achieving that.
Remember America's great economic world power status was built with child labor, monopolies, Robber Baron Capitalism, stealing the land of indigenous peoples, and Three ideas that have shaped our modern history and progress; American Exceptionalism, Manifest Destiny and the Monroe Doctrine.
We are hardly in the position to tell any other country how they should reach for the same goals we did.
