MOST of the written information including web sites are sorely out of date.
Doing the research and then putting it all down into words and going through the process of publishing and distributing is an immense job for little reward. It is usually a labor of love. Today it is just too involved and takes too much work. I have suggested many times on this forum that folks should report what they learn to some central location where it can be listed for all to find and look at. But even that - running such a site - takes a lot of work and time and there is pretty much no reward. The Churches had the updates to their books on their website. But it takes people sending them the info so they can post new info. It didn't work I guess. People don't send the info. So everything but our own efforts, experiences, research, etc. is going to be out of date unless we share all of that info with everyone. It doesn't get done. We try to post what we know but as often as not someone will find a way to criticize - and we all do this as well. So recent info is hard to come-by unless we ask specific questions about specific places. Not generalization. I know things that we learn over the years about all kinds of stuff - like border crossing here - or boondocking there - but I can't write it all out. Any book is going to be out of date - it could even be out of date by the time it is published and distributed. So we keep our own files and update them whenever we learn something new - this place closed - new place opened - new road here - new route there. No one is going to do it for us anymore. When someone posts something useful here we save it to our own files and can then refer to the info as needed. No way to remember it all. Even old books can be great as there are things that do not change - where are the ruins - the pyramids - the amazing towns - the best beaches - the beautiful 400 year old churches - the list goes on. But the rules that applied last week may not apply next week. We know not to expect these things. Baja is Baja - but it is still part of Mexico and there are rules that apply wherever you go in Mexico. We have been to Baja. Not our thing. But we may go again anyway. People visit this website to learn all they can about Mexico - as well as places further south - so we post about what we have learned about Mexico.
