Busskipper, is the area that you were referring to? This is the Pulpit of the Temple of Sinawava, not far from the Narrows parking area -- we were looking south, down the canyon. I used a small incandescent (not LED) flashlight to paint the Pulpit -- the beam was too weak to reach the more distant rock walls. It was too cold for us to hang out on the hood of the car -- this was in November. But using the hood as a recliner is a great idea for our next visit, which should be in a warmer season!Click For Full-Size Image.
You got it - We tend to only go to Zion in the Winter - but usually just means the sky is clear and the nights are Crisp - If anyone were to have the picture in MY minds eye it would be You.
Thanks for sharing,

- 4runnerguyExplorerWe've done about everything mentioned here. Love to ride the bikes from the CG to the end of the canyon and back. One can stop at pulloffs where the bus doesn't stop. Great for pictures. Angels Landing is spectacular but crowded, as are the Narrows. First time I did the Narrows was from top to bottom as an overnight trip with the Boy Scouts. This was in the 60's and we didn't see another soul until the last mile or so of the trip.
For a different view, try the Observation Point trail. Kind of across the river from Angels Landing. For those looking for a little more adventure, head up the Hidden Canyon trail. Once you get to the sign that says end of trail, continue up the canyon. A variety of scrambles ahead. Easier to do later in the year, as there can be some decent size water holes in the spring. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIFor the Narrows... make sure you know the weather status 50 miles away! It greatly affects being stuck in the canyon during rains. You won't live to tell everyone how wonderful it is.... and it is. :)

If you want a little more solitude in the "Narrows", start from the Chamberlain Ranch. The upper canyon is quite a bit narrower than the lower section. We hiked for 5 hours before seeing the first hikers coming up from the lower trailhead. Photo was 1 hour down stream from the Ranch.

Favorite part of Zion was hiking "The Narrows".
Never had a Bad Day in ZION!
The Narrows are great on a hot day if you beat the crowds.
Angels Landing on a Winter Day that is 65-70, crystal clear - and you can see for miles.
But,.... for me laying on the hood of the car .......staring straight up, ....in Zion Canyon Loop ......between 11 - 12 at night...... with not another Sole there(just Me and the DW)............Might Just be as Close as you get to Heaven.

We love to hike in Zion, but for us the best part is the bike ride up and down the canyon. No cars (just the shuttles), and world-class 360 degree scenery.
Not me! I took my bike up on the shuttle, and then rode down. Much more relaxing! ;) Wished I could have done that every day for a month. That ride and the Narrows hike were both really great. - profdant139Explorer IIWe love to hike in Zion, but for us the best part is the bike ride up and down the canyon. - Searching_UtExplorerThe subway is quite spectacular indeed, and of course just about every time we're down there you have to do a quick jaunt up Angles Landing. Of course the folks there this morning found the trail to be closed because someone fell of and died. The Kolob Arch trail in the winter is spectacular, not one of the better ones for a hot day though. Of course you have the Subway, and numerous other slot canyons if you like the technical stuff. Guess I just really like Zion. You can spend a couple weeks there and not get in all the fantastic hikes.
