The "S" Word in northern Colorado

...and that would be S-N-O-W!!!

Yup, if the forecast models hold true, snow is forecast for the lower elevations here in northern Colorado, including Loveland/Fort Collins/Greeley area. Mix of rain/show showers tonight. Any measurable snow would be the earliest snowfall EVER in this area, in 125 years of record keeping. The typical first snow is in mid-October.

We are at ~5000 feet here. Higher elevations will certainly get snowfall. Trail Ridge Rd in RMNP closed on Tuesday night due to snow and will likely be closed for a few days. I don't see them closing it for the season yet, however; too early for that!

If you're planning a trip to RMNP and coming in from the west (US 34 to Grand Lake), you're likely going to be delayed for a few days. Forecast highs in these lower elevations through Friday is for the upper 40s/low 50s; mountain areas will be probably 10-15 degrees colder.

If you're heading this way, make sure your furnace is in good working order and bundle up!
  • Howdy!

We're in Rapid City, SD. It started snowing last night and is forecast to snow unit tomorrow. Good news is it will be cleared out by the time we leave next week.

  • Warming back up over the weekend, and back to the 80s next week. Just a cold/snowy next couple of days, for those heading out this way over the next few days.
  • We had around 8" of the stuff yesterday (9/11) on the prairies of NE Wyoming. None stuck to the roads, and it was mostly all gone this afternoon. That's the earliest snowfall I can recall, and I've lived here 43 years.
