I don't know what your other plans are or how you are navigating, but if I were in your situation, I would look for routes west across new England and cross the Hudson near Albany. Then you could take Rt9 south from there. No tolls and much more scenic. If you are not accustom to driving and towing through the megopolis, I suggest you avoid it.
