Upping my $300,00 liability to $500K cost me an extra $75. No Canadian insurance companies cover collision or liability down there, but most will reimburse you on your insurance at home for the time the vehicle is in Mexico. For most 4 -5 months is break even.

Marv, What state / location is our policy based on? Each state can / will have different coverage. Mine is AZ. Per the rep & as mine reads there are no difference in coverage. The rep stated it would be spelled out in my copy as well if there was not coverage.

Mike: I asked Progressive when I renewed my insurance and was told NO. When I had tools stolen form the Bluebird @ Wal Mart in Obregon there was no coverage. When I have time I will email them for clarification. I want it in writing.

briansue, did you do multi vehicles with the regular liability? In my case it would be 3 times the $225 as I have 3 vehicles I take into Mexico. Only taking two on this trip but I use my pickup when I cross over into Nogales for the day. I also always get a full year as I cross year-round.

Marv: Read my policy again and just got off the phone with Progressive. Per my policy and the Progressive Rep, All of my declarations including theft & theft of contents are the same in Mexico as in the USA with the exception of Liability. The Rep also said I would be towed to the USA for repairs with no limit on the mileage if not drivable. Rep also stated the Lewis & Lewis Drivers License Policy satisfies Progressive's requirement to purchase/have Mexican Liability Insurance when SOB as required to validate Progressive's Comp/Coll coverage in Mexico.

Mike: Of course it covers theft of the vehicle but does it cover theft of contents? Mine has that coverage in the USA but no contents coverage in Mexico.

What is the benefit of the Driver License plan? It is for 365 days while the other is for 6 months. We go for about 4 months. Am I reading it wrong?

Marv, my Mexico declaration does not have any limits and does cover theft. Mine cost $7. Toad is old Jeep and thus far none of the Mexican Insurance companies will cover with Comp & Coll. They will cover with Liability thus only Liability needed.
