Thanks for adding one month and later this summer but an actual month would help. The further south you go the hotter it will be. We've learned we like trees and most of what you suggest lack trees so not high on areas we need to see again.
I would suggest keep going west after the well named Bad Lands to Yellowstone/Tetons and then south. If the forecast is then for hot weather I would head to Colorado and then to the N Rim as it's cooler and has real trees unlike the S Rim. IF the forecast is for cool weather (not likely) then Utah to the N Rim and then up to CO before heading east on I-80.
Why 80 instead of 70??? There are only two good ways to see Kansas...at night or from 35,000' as you can count all the trees using your hands and feet.
