Toursaver book

we are debating getting this. we're not huge 'tour' people.
My question is, if you bought this book, what were the best excursions you took using the book?
(I'm trying to figureout if the 'top' 4-5 excursions are of interest to us)

As a secondary question, i understand that you have to make reservations and many places limit how many coupon holders are allowed each day. We are headed to Alaska but have no itinerary yet and have NO idea where we will be at any given time. Will that be a problem?

Thanks for any help!

Sue
  • We did the Stan Stephens tour out of Valdez. Wish we had known about the TourSaver Book. We will be buying the book on this trip and we enjoyed the Valdez boat tour so much that we will be doing it again. I think that if you will be in Alaska for an extended time period, purchasing the book is a no-brainer.
  • For us last summer, it was easily the Kenai Fjords National Park boat tour from Seward. It was my third trip there in 20 years and Major Marine had by far the best tour skipper I have had on those trips. And we had no reservations until the day before we took the boat trip. We just pulled into our campground, unhooked the trailer, drove into Seward, and walked up to the ticket office with our coupon book. Next morning we were on the water.

I wouldn't try to do that over July 4 weekend in Seward however!
  • If you look on the site they list all the excursions that are available. You only have to do one glacier tour and you will have paid for the book. We recommend the Stan Stephens tour out of Valdez. In Fairbanks the river boat tour is great.

We didn't make reservations during our trip except for July 4 weekend and Denali's Teklanika campground. We had no problems with getting on the tours we selected by calling a week ahead when we could better judge where we would be.

I'd advise getting the book unless you can't find anything in it that appeals to you. We're not tour folks but both of the above are a must for your Alaskan trip.
