Towing Lake Placid to Rome NY

We are currently in Lake Placid. Heading to Old Forge next, then on to the Finger Lakes.
Wondering about towing (30 ft 5er ) to Old Forge and then on to the Finger Lakes. Coming into Lake Placid from the 87 on 73 wasn't bad. Are the roads to Old Forge and on any worse. I do know they are grinding 86 near Saranac Lake, put that should not be an issue other than a slight delay.
  • The Adirondack Museum is one of the best museums I have ever been to.

Plenty of RV parking across the street in a dirt lot. You will probably be the only person over there this time of year b/c you are out of summer and ahead of leaf peepers.

    Enjoy!

  • Thanks KMP44, I made reservations in Old Forge and will be heading there Monday.
Plan to stop in Blue Lake to see the museum on the way through. Hope I can park the rig in their lot!

Assuming that you're not going for an award in sarcasm, I guess you're not into Winter Olympics. :S

I prefer the Summer Olympics but I watch the Winter Olympics too. What I have trouble remembering is something that happened 34 years ago.

Lake Placid in NEW YORK was host to the winter Olympics in 1980 and 1932. It is the site for the MIRACLE on ICE hockey team that beat the then USSR in hockey for the gold when given almost no chance
It continues to be one of the premier places for winter athletes to train specially luge.
  • The Winter Olympics have been held in Lake Placid twice; remember the "Miracle on Ice"?

  • Route 28 has some rough spots, especially between Blue Mountain Lake and Inlet. From Old Forge south to Utica/Rome it is pretty good. In July the DOT was patching some spots on 28, and repaving from Inlet to Old Forge. Still a really nice drive, but there is some rough road. And some genius decided it was neccessary to put up "rough road" signs - as if you wouldn't know!
