Tracfone in Canada

We crossed into Canada yesterday at the Coutts AB crossing.

We carry a new Straighttalk phone, on the Verison network, & also an old Tracfone, also on the Verison network.

As expected the Straighttalk phone lost signal not far into Canada. Well out of the reach of any US towers the Tracphone still has a good signal & is able to text.

Not complaining but don't recall the Tracfone working at all the last time we were headed to Alaska.

  • Sorry for the break but I have been without internet access since the first post. The Tracfone is still working. Have not made any calls but sent a few texts & have recieved calls from Bermuda while we were in Granum, AB, Lake Louise, Jasper, AB now Prince George, BC.

The phone is a very old simple one. Doesn't even have a camera.

    No complaints. Usage is minimal.
  • My info may be dated but Tracfone CDMA phones may get a signal some places in Canada but Tracfone would cut off service when they become aware of more than very token use. On the other hand my GSM Tracfone gets no signal whatsoever in Canada unless one is very close to the border in which case the phone may connect to a US tower. May explain why some people claim Tracfone works in Canada and others say it doesn't.
  • We live in British Columbia 30 from the Wash State board, our tracfone will sometimes work if the stars are lines up with the moon on every 6th Friday of the month,......, but only on those days.
So it sits in the glove box until we go back south of 49.

Glad to hear this, if it continues to work. The last time I checked, Tracfone said 'can NOT use phone outside U.S., and if tried, phone will be (permanently?) disabled'.
