Transit through Yellowstone? South ent to west ent

On June 1st I'll be heading to West Yellowstone from Dubois with a 29ft fiver. I have 2 options, shorter through Yellowstone or longer via Jackson Hole and up the 33.

I'm leaning toward going through Jackson because I'm afraid of traffic in Yellowstone but driving through Yellowstone is appealing. What say my learned friends?

  • You DO NOT want to take route 22 over the Teton Pass west of Jackson. 10% grades and sharp curves. Been there, done that in our 24ft class C, never again.

If you want to avoid going through Yellowstone, head south out of Jackson to Alpine Junction, then west on route 26 to Idaho Falls and route 20 north to West Yellowstone. Your transmission and brakes will thank you.
  • Go through the park,scenic & easy, it's not a race anyways.
  • Teton pass is STEEP. Do some research on that road before you venture that way. Going through the park is no big deal anyways.
  • I would come through the south entrance up to Grant Village and then through to West Yellowstone Via Old faithful

Ditto. Done it several times. Depending on the time of year, there may be heavy traffic . . . but that's Yellowstone.

  • From Dubois, Wyoming - Both are good with your FW. We've done both. When coming from our home to Yellowstone through West Yellowstone and Hwy 20. It's a good road. The drive through Yellowstone is scenic. It may be shorter in distance, but takes longer because of the speed limit imposed, but it's so beautiful and the roads are good. We go through because we like it so I'd suggest you go through for the experience.
