We last did that trip in 1999 with a 19ft TT. We did it in Sept and Oct so it was a lot less busy than in the summer. We found some nice little campgrounds in small towns that were good for an overnight stop and didn't cost as much as some of the Provincial Parks or large RV Parks. We just travelled a day at a time and stopped when we felt we like it. I don't like to make reservations and be tied to a schedule, it works for us.
We enjoyed some of the Provincial Parks also but by mid to late Sept some of the parks were already closed.
I've driven across the country four times so far and am looking forward to another trip in the next year or two. There is still lots to see.
