If you'd like less 4 lane freeway time and more time on 2 lane secondary highways and see some beautiful countryside you could take Highway 6 south from Highway 17 at Espanola and down onto Manitoulin Island. From there you can take the ferry across the mouth of Georgian Bay to Tobermory. From there you can take one of several highways south to Niagara Falls.
