Traveling out East?

Plenty of FREE beaches in VA, NC, SC.......Lots of county roads, lots of nice campgrounds.........................

Did the Schukyll to the Walt Whitman bridge once at rush hour with the MH. I'll pass on that the next time.

Chi-Town is a breeze at 2:00 a.m. Anybody that takes an RV through a major metro area during the daytime should expect to see the local inhabitants trying to make a living!

X2! The same can be said when you hit peak season in a place like Yellowstone. Yup, streets are narrow (rememeber they are old cow paths with paving), a LOT of people live up here, and we have a very short season. "Midwest" says "Chicago" to me. Come on now, don't be telling folks to come up to Maine after Labor Day. There are enough Baby Boomers up there then that it is getting harder to get a nice site on the ocean! Stay away.

You could always go across the UP of Michigan, enter Canada and go by way of Ottawa, Montreal, an Quebec. Then come in the back door of Maine and see Acadia Park.

Hmmmm I grew up in Madison, UW grad, spent most of my engineering career in the NE where the good paying jobs were at the time: NY, Philly, NJ, etc. As I recall the folks from Chicago used to jam up the vacation areas in Wis in the summer. City folks with kids do the same everywhere. We summer in Maine and the traffic from Portland north is easy driving except on week ends when the big city folks with summer cottages hit the road. Just time your arrivals northbound before Fri and southbound after Mon morning and the problems are few and far between. There are not a lot of sandy beaches from mid coast Maine on north. The sandy beaches are mostly in southern Maine and resemble the Jersey shore in summer. But the true beauty of the Maine coast is the rugged granite shore lines and the thick forests of pine, spruce and oak. We get the infrequent heat wave but they usually only hit the low 90's on the coast and usually only last a couple days. The Boston/Washington corridor is one big city after another, but there are some very nice rv facilities if you do your home work. And from south Jersey to Florida there are more beaches than you will visit in your lifetime. I've been to a bunch of them but at 71 there isn't much chance I'll see them all. We winter in Florida and suffer the snowbirds and tourists but we pay them back by going north in the summer! Likke somebody else said careful planning can make a HUGE difference in enjoying a trip anywhere.

Never paid to go on a beach before.

I have paid to stay in oceanfront condos, hotels and campgrounds. Even at those places, I saw people walking from across the street right onto the beach.
