Heading to Montana in June. Will be driving I20 out of Louisiana then taking US287 up to Amarillo. Lots of ways to go through/around Dallas. I have no problem with Dallas traffic, just looking for the best way through or around town.

One option I am looking at is I20 to US80 (old section of I20) then to I635 around to I35E then north on I35E up to Denton then US380 over to US287. Any problems with that route?

NOT 635......very narrow lanesI live right off I20 east of Dallas/Mesquite.I get off I20 in terrell at 148 - head north to 205 thru Rockwall to Wylie - 78 toward Farmersville to 380 west thru McKinney. to get to 287.....Its thru small towns and traffic lights but I dont get headaches from Highway travel thru Dallas.....IMHOThis is my route for Colorado & Yellowstone next spring. My route heading to Oklahoma or to west Texas

Will not be in the MH on this trip. Will be in a pickup pulling a 16' trailer. Making the best travel time will be important. I have been on US380 east of Denton and remember lot on traffic lights and traffic.

Having lived in the DFW area (various municipalities), gone to school in Amarillo, still visiting family in East Texas, etc., my favorite route is just to stay on I-20 to Loop 820 on the SE side of Fort Worth, jog up the loop to 287 (which becomes I-35W), and head north until 287 diverges a few miles north of 820 on the north side. Fort Worth is a big city - but still not as big/bad as Dallas.Rob

To avoid Dallas/Fort Worth hang a right at Shreveport, take US-71 to Texarkana, US-82 to Paris, then US-271 to the Indian Nation Turnpike which ends at I-40. I-40 to Amarillo. Alternatively, I-20 to US-271, then US-271 to Paris and the turnpike.Unless you have some reason for going to Dallas.
